North Island robin (Petroica longipes) ENDEMIC

Other names: New Zealand robin, toutouwai, bush robin.
Where robins are regularly exposed to people, such as along public walking tracks, they become quite confiding, often approaching to within a metre of a person sitting quietly. Lucky me :-)

Quite different from our North American Robin, but it is a beautiful bird in it's own right. Thanks for sharing this NZ species, Zig.

Yes, I'm used to the European Red Robin. This was a first for me especially it's faintly streaked appearance. Adult birds are also able to expose a small white spot of feathers above the base of the bill.

Looks identical in every way except for colours to our European Robin! One of our favourite little birds that can become very tame in the garden with a little encouragement, especially mealworms. A lovely image!
