Nikon D3x, Zeiss 135 f 2.0

ISO 200 1/160s, f 10.0

After shooting slide film for over 40 years I switched to digital and only a few months later I had an opportunity to shoot this rehab male snowy owl.  I only had a short time so I took a few head and shoulder shots and in this one he was looking directly at me. This is a crop from that shot.

The  pupils are different in size due to the direction of the light on a bright cloudy day.

An excellent close-in portrait with exceptional eye contact, Warren! I love the simplicity of the image combined with the impeccable (and almost high key) feather detail. Well done!

The Zeiss 135 is a "super" lens except it is manual focus and my eyesight isn't what it used to be !!

Lol.  I get that Warren.  Probably on the same hymn sheet.  (I've a couple of Zeiss's too.  And have grown up on Kodachrome 25 and 64 before I found Velvia... and without reading glasses, my sharpening is, well... hmmm).   All the best

Wonderful close-up detail!
I love the simplicity and at the same time the beauty of this image.
I would see it on an entire wall.

Thank you so much Ron.  I submitted this one quite some time ago so I was surprised when I saw it was chosen an EP.  Again, it's an honor and gratifying to have this picked as an EP.   Warren
