Rose-breasted Grosbeak (m)
Pheucticus ludovicianus
5.16.2020Livingston Co, MI Head / face markings say female or "1st winter male". Breast says male, so I'm going with a late-blooming young male. The breast and underwing markings are yellow. I've seen yellow House Finches and very orange Tanagers, but I've never seen this on a Grosbeak; Xanthrochroism is a condition in which some colors, often red, are replaced by yellow (think of the yellow Cardinals that sometimes make the news.) 5DIV 500 4.0 "Classic" + 1.4x II 1/400, f/8, ISO 1600 Natural light Comments and suggestions always welcome. |
