I visited with my Owl friend yesterday. The temperature was -12 C
but no wind and sunny. I spent four hours with the Owl. Unfortunately his hunting was not successful yesterday. They stash food away for days like this but they will have to thaw it out by sitting on, that takes energy away. I took a few shots of a Boreal Owl doing it, sitting on its prey that is, but still died of starvation in three days. They need the fresh warm meal when it is cold.

Such a wonderful image and such a jolt to hear of the challenges they face and the consequences.

I agree, and hope this one survives the winter. Excellent work, Karl.

Great lighting for the pose. Nice exposure on the bird. Moss(lichens) and hole in perch are a nice touch.

4 hours at 25 below.. man, you Canadians are tough..
I hope you had some shelter, the Owl look cold.
I really like this one, that cold air gave a crisp snap to the image and a nice stare to go with it.

This is a great Hawk Owl photo, well framed and a great perch. Nice biological information you provided as well.
