Hi guys,

happy new year! I hope everyone had a good start to the new year so far.

This bird has been very high on my wanted list and I had previously missed out on getting it every time I visited its range. They're common, but very vary and elusive, due to being declared a pest for fruit farming and being allowed to be shot on sight without permits for decades!
In this image, I like the perch, a Scarlet Banksia, almost as much as the bird! It was great two being able to combine these two Western Australian natives into the one image! I was only able to take one image when the bird came in before a bicycle chased him away. Luckily it turned out fine. At first, I thought I got nothing, but then realized my camera wrote onto my second memory card and discovered one usable image!

The color and background are fantastic, Jan. It’s great you finally got the shot you were after. The perch is as cool as the bird. Excellent.

Great setting and beautiful bird, hard to imagine people kill them. I hope the wildfires are not too bad where you are.

Such a colourful bird, but the perch is amazing too! A very striking image, Jan. A Happy New Year to you.
