Rough-legged Hawk

Canon MKIV Canon 500/4II+2x 1/640 f/8 ISO 500

Came upon this beauty perched on this bush. Tried circling in order to see more of the body, but it only allowed this much before it flew.

First time I've ever seen one in Southern California.

Richard, Normally like photos where you can see more of the lower body. But it works very well in this image. Really like the details throughout the image. Well done.

Excellent capture. Some negative space above. Cropping to 4X5 might also work here.

Thanks. Composition is often in the eye of the beholder. Appreciate your thoughts, but I like it as is.

I agree about hoping for the whole body, but birds don't always let you see what you want. As I said, I tried to circle around the bush to get more of the bird, but it decided to fly
