We are sure crossing our fingers and hoping for a better duck season than last year.  The 3 months of rainy weather in So Cal really played havoc on the duck migration through the southern Pacific flyway. 
These are one of my favorite ducks to shoot. It doesn't get much better than a handsome Drake Shoveler in flight, and in good light, at least in my opinion :)

As you mentioned, being "right on your shadow line" I think is the most important thing in almost all of avian photography!!
