I had no idea they could turn their head around like this.

Dan, an interesting flight pose with the turned head and wing spread. It is difficult photographing the underside of a bird in flight. You could probably brighten the underside of the hawk in post processing and reveal some additional detail. Nice shot. :)

Very nice shot Dan! Like Ron mentioned...brighten up the underside would made a huge difference.

Agree with the previous comments, but it is so interesting to see this! Very owl-like in behavior. I wonder what it was looking at.
