Really nice shot of the roller. The starling is not very sharp. A higher aperture may be the answer.

I know it’s not technically the perfect image but I kinda liked the bonus starling even though it’s oof. I was originally parked watching a pride of lions on a distant river bank. The roller came in and landed close to me. By time I positioned camera and got ready to shoot the starling landed in the shot. At the range they were at I’m not sure I could have grabbed good focus on both but to be honest I didn’t explore that. I kinda took a couple shots for fun and went back to watching the lions. I kinda like the starling out of focus. It’s kinda representative of the species to me anyway. Both of these birds are super common and beautifully colored but the roller gets more respect in general. The starling has made itself a nuisance in so many environments and just isn’t held in as high of regard as the roller. It’s habituation to human populated areas has lessened its “wild” appeal. This image kinda speaks that to me. Two common beautiful iconic african birds but one placed higher on a pedestal and the other just kinda always present in the peripheral as an afterthought.

Even with the soft starling its still nice to get two species in the frame!
