Really like the background. The simple perch helps to isolate the bird nicely. Curious how you find the image quality at f/16 versus about f/8?

Thank you for the kind comments. When shooting with TC-301 (2.0X TC) I loose 2 stops ..so paired with my 500mm f/4 lens wide open combo will be 1000mm f/8 and if I close aperture extra 2 stops it will be f/16 (sweet spot) for sharpness.
If I have to shoot 500mm f/4 wide open with TC-301 (1000mm f/8) it is still very sharp, but if I have the light and good background I stop one or two extra stops aperture on the lens. I even shot it with 3 extra stops down f/22 with great results.

A very nice pose with an ideal background, Ludo. A good-looking specimen as well.

Really pops when clicked on. Detail is great. I never have been able to get any sharp images with the TC-301 at any aperture on the 500f4 P or any other lens. The 200-400 f4 MF is even worse. Yours must be an exceptional copy.

Thank you all for the kind words.

Joe, TC-301 is really tricky teleconverter. Sharpest 2.0X TC  I ever owned in any brand and make. Crazy sharp. The key is focus. Very narrow depth of field  with 500mm f/4. When I have time and subject is still I use zoom in live view, but mostly I  am relying on my eyes.

Excellent pose and background. Interesting to see the darker orangey color compared to what I see down here in Olympia.
