Photographed at Nickerson Beach on Long Island shortly after sunrise. The Oystercatcher was on its way to feed the juvenile.

Love the foamy water and the light is perfect. Any idea what these little crustaceans are? Type of crab? When I was there, that's typically what I saw them eat (no oysters). Cheers

Thanks, Leigh! Good question, I think it is a crab but I don't know the exact kind. Maybe someone else can pitch in.

Beautiful warm light and a great shoreline pose, Axel. The crab in the bill moves it up to the next level. Excellent work.

This is just perfect! Light is beautiful and the raised foot and prey make it a pleasure to view. The little crab ....I've heard them called both mole crabs and sand fleas.

Thank you, Sharon! I just googled mole crab and they look like the snack the Oystercatcher caught. BTW, according to Google, mole crabs and sand fleas are similar but different orders of crustaceans, sand fleas are supposed to be a little smaller, not that I would know. :)

Thanks again, it's much appreciated!
