Shot few weeks ago. I was spending time with GH-Owls in the woods when one fledgling landed really close to me to the right.
I took of my TC-301 (2.0X TC). Shortly after this Cooper's Hawk landed on same branch where owl was 7-8 feet apart. Hawk was noise and make small movements towards the owl trying to intimidate ...no luck.  Owl didn't not care at all...zero fear and went back to sleep. Hawk's ego got crushed and flew away. There was no question here who the boss was. Owl would eat that hawk for a dinner.
I have seen this behavior in the same woods between Cooper's Hawks and Great-horned Owls before. Owls never showed  any fear of the Cooper's Hawks.

super shot Ludo. Interesting news about the feisty Hawk. Must be shattering to have one's ego crushed but at least it had the sense to drop the issue. (once saw a pair of male Capercaillie, fighting, filmed by a Swedish Photographer, when one was taken out by a Golden Eagle. The other stupid bird decided to attack the Eagle. Ended up as dinner mk II).

The fanned tail makes this special, Ludo. Lovely dappled lighting and good detail. Also, thanks for the interesting information about the Cooper Hawk and Great-horned Owl.
