Shot this morning in very low light. Sun was just getting out and both fledglings were deep in the dark part of the woods. Female was tucked in at tree trunk just blending in and this male was few trees over ..closer and higher.
I didn't use flash, I want to test Nikon D3s how far I can push it.
Shot was made ISO-12,800 in "DX" mode (1.5X crop mode).
No noise reduction used at all, just basic stuff in post process.
Note how wide open those pupils are...very little light.

Nikon D3s, 500mm f/4 P ED IF (MF)+ TC-301(2.0X TC)  shot in "DX" 1.5X crop mode ...total effective reach 1500mm
1/60,  ISO-12,800, f/11 on tripod.

Please click on the image for uncompressed view, thank you.

Well, I would say the D3s passed the test with flying colors. Amazing shot at ISO 12,800 without noise reduction. The wide open eyes make the image. Very nicely done, Ludo.

I don't know the Nikon but I have to agree with Ron, like the eyes.
