Taken in Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula (EUP)
The EUP super abundance of Spruce budworm has not yet declined or caused very much change in certain mixed forests (composed of primarily Spruce, Cedar, Balsam fir, with some Tamarack, Poplar, and Birch) with are locally preferred by nesting Black-throated Green Warblers. The extra food has resulted in much higher territory densities of this species. On a decent weather morning in June, on a walk through our 2 mile long peninsula, you cannot go anywhere without hearing their song or calls. This image was taken at the beginning of the Spruce budworm infestation a few years ago.
