Newly hatched loon chicks rarely stray very far from the protection of their parents.  Small chicks are very vulnerable to northern pike and snapping turtles which strike from below.

Canon 5D III, 420mm (400 with 1.4X), 1/1000s, f/7.1, ISO 1000.

Sweet family portrait, Robert. I like that you captured the green in the loons' neck. Nice low angle and beautiful lighting.
