The four eggs from the Killdeer family that was nesting in my driveway hatched on July 1.  I was very lucky to be able to watch several of the eggs hatch.  At first, they appeared almost dead but very wet and motionless.  Then within less than an hour they were up and running around.  The parents had trouble chasing after them.  Not the best lighting conditions today but this image shows a 12 hour old Killdeer exploring its new surroundings.
Iso-1000, 500 mm +1.4 extender, F8, 500th, D 500, handheld, full frame.  This is a large crop, about 25% of full frame.  Wish I could get closer but at this time they need their space.

What a fantastic bit of natural history taking place in your driveway! and a beautiful image to show for it. We live on the edge of a town, so the bird activity in our driveway is mainly birds pooping on the car..... or the occasional dropped frog body from the local heron passing over!
