You need a special kind of light to capture these guys and keep the whites from blowing out, yet still show detail in the dark feathers.   Picking up the iridescence is a bonus!  i would like a little more detail in the back feathers, but it's difficult when they're wet and he had just popped up from a dive.

Love this - great bird, nice reflection, nice colors. Just a bit dark on a fully calibrated monitor. It looks like you may have your photo editing monitor set a bit too bright if this does not look muted on your system.

I agree, and I think I used the s/h adjustment in ps and may have caused this myself.  Thank you!  Sharon

Really excellent job on the composition, reflection, and especially the water. I do think you could brighten it up at least half stop and get more of a pop without losing detail in the contrasting plumage.

Another vote for brightening... nice reflection. I think you
got the whites right, toned them down and they look a bit grayed out.
They can easily go brighter and the blacks look fine.

Beautiful image, just a touch too dark on my screen. Such a pretty species and you caught this one with reflection and pretty water very nicely.
