Great Crested Grebe and chick.

This rather large chick still enjoyed taking the taxi ride on its parent's back, and I thought it was sweet how mother raised her wings to hold her baby safely on board.  Difficult mid day light, but that's when they were out to play! :)

Excellent catch. The light is superb and I am really enjoying the behavior. The face of the chick is reminiscent of the mask from Chinese Opera

Beautiful family portrait, Carol. I really like the face with the red mark of the young one.

The chicks are pretty outrageous looking, I hope to see one sometime...
Sweet shot, I think it could use some CCW rotation...

Thanks!  I was wondering what it reminded me of - and you're right.  :)

Thanks Dan.  I know it looks tilted but they were riding the remains of a wake from a small passing motor boat.  :)

Adorable, Carol! Such a smug look on the chick's face...if one could interpret. It must feel very safe. Amazing, exotic markings-gotta wonder how they evolved for protection. A fun shot!
