Our bluebirds are actively building a nest in their usual box. The sparing with the swallows and sparrows continues, but the annual truce between the parties has occurred. We have moved a piece of old tree roots into the pond area to act as a perch and feeding spot. This bluebird was chowing down on some of the meal-worms we placed in the roots. 7D2 with 500 F4 and 1.4 TC, and fill flash set to flash EV of -2/3.  Thanks for looking.

The old tree roots make a good natural perch, Ed. Isn’t it a joy to watch nesting behavior of these wonderful birds?

Thanks for all the replies.  Since several of the comments were referencing our setting, here is an image of our small pond and yard.  the pond is about 3 feet deep at the deepest point and roughly 12 x 15.  the "stream" runs just next to the walkway next to our house.  A lot of birds and other critters frequent our area  daily throughout the year.  You can see the "drift wood Root" off to the right Of course we have to take the bird feeders in at night as the local black bears will tear them down.
