Shot in February -2017. Last few moments of remaining light.
I used my all time favorite 300mm f/2.8 wide open.

1DM4, Canon 300mm f/2.8L USM (NON-IS).
1/1600, ISO-800, f/2.8, handheld.

Nice you got the eye...I will trade you 300mm wood ducks for 300mm owls anytime.

The owl really stands out against the dark background- excellent! As mentioned , the eye is great-so intent.
