Every time I see Trumpeter Swans, I am reminded of how very close we came to losing for all time this majestic waterfowl. In the 1800s, trumpeters were extirpated from all of eastern North America. We owe a debt of gratitude to the many dedicated conservationists who brought this species back from the brink of extinction. Hastings County, Ontario, Canada
