Quite a rare bird for us in the UK.  barely 2000 nesting pairs.  Taken in the Rothiemurcus estate in the Cairngorms one February.  Amazing thing, I'd hired a guide named Neil McIntyre.  Basically has a set up in the forest.. No hide.. Just feeders.  Drops you off and lets you get on with it.  Must do again.  Techs.
Nikon D7100 and Sigma Sport.  600 1/400 F6.3 Iso 3200.  FF.

Please feel free to view the image uncompressed.  Thanks for looking.

Excellent placement and composition with the bird looking across and through the frame, Dave. Exceptional back pose with the crest up, and the detail is first-rate. A truly beautiful photograph with an wonderful background. Appears your guide's set ups are very much worthwhile.

Very attractive little bird... Perch is nice and nicely angled.
Head turn and crest nice...
A very challenging photo DOF wise and you did well.
It appears you sharpened the soft oof tail, I think it would look fine without sharpening it.,
The focus is on the face where it should be..

This is a real beauty, Dave- love the turned head and crest up- how wonderful that you were able to see this bird too. Perhaps you have more photos of it?

So rewarding when these trips result in some good sightings, Dave. Lovely look back pose from this little beauty. Love the area around the Rothiemurcus Estate.
