The sun was just high enough to crest over the six foot tall big blue stem grass and light up the pothole. This is a private 800 acres of mixed native prairie and wetland that is scattered with pothole ponds no bigger than a quarter acre. The bushwhacking is tough, and the hikes are long to get to them. But if I get here before day break, the views and colors that explode at sunrise are breathtaking.
