Tufted Puffin - Pribilof Islands, Alaska
EOS 1D, 300mm, ISO 800, f/4.5, 1/1000

Much discussion lately about new AI tools like AI Clear and AI Gigapixel to breathe life into old files from cameras with a low megapixel number.  This has me diving through old folders looking for shots that had never previously been worked.  This is one such file.  After cropping I was left with just 2.5 megapixels of the original 4 megapixel file.  Using AI Gigapixel and AI Clear after a Capture One Pro conversion, I was able to process this into a very usable 6 megapixel file plenty good for something like an 8x12 or 8x10 print or magazine layout...

So glad you looked back on your files. (I'm guilty of that of late but it's an enjoying past experiences thingy as I've yet to add AI giga.... ). That will come.

Fab shot and so on the money.

Processing looks great, maybe a bit of magenta in the darks on the Puffin?

Pretty exciting to be able to do this and get such beautiful results. Was there much noise in this photo to begin with?

ISO 800 on the 1D looks about like ISO 6400 on a D500 :)

Very interesting about the new software! Because I am so much younger than you (haha!) my first digital camera was a 7D so I do not have old files to resurrect. But would this software work on a 20 MP image that was cropped to say 5 MP? The IQ of the image would have to be perfect I would assume to hold up to an artificial increase in pixels.
Image looks good although the blacks look a bit chocked. Love the BG sea. Overall IQ looks pretty good for the 2.5 MP file size,

Yes I think it would work well in that situation.  The first digital cameras only had 4 or 5 stops of usable dynamic range.

Cool POV and definitely a species I'd love to see someday. Remarkable what the new software did with this relatively small file.

Old image or not, you caught this bird nicely, with a great background.
