This is an Arctic Ptarmigan from Churchill Manitoba this past November.  7D2 with 500 F4 1/1250 @ f4 ISO 800 hand held lying prone on ground shooting slightly up hill to get dark smooth background.  Fairly large crop.

Lovely image Ed! I like the contrast between the dark background and the white bird/snow. Very well exposed, nice details and good pose. I think the straw and the rocks adds a nice feeling of the habitat but I would remove some of the right and include more on the right if possible.

I really enjoy the way this is set up just so striking and unusual-love the rocks and bit of weed . Also a perfect example of how a subject almost in the center can work so well.

Lovely image, the bird is well framed by the stones on either side and the little dry plant. Well seen and photographed, Ed.

A lovely winter scene, Ed. Each object has a purpose and works beautifully in the overall framing of the image.
