The Red-necked Woodpecker is a big amazonian woodpecker related to the Pileated Woodpecker in North America. I was happy to observe a pair from a canopy tower on my recent trip to Brazil. I love the strange pattern on the trees there!

Beautiful colors on this bird that is new to me. Great BG and detail.

What a good-looking woodpecker! Stunning color. And with an obvious similarity to the Pileated Woodpecker. The dark green background sets off this woodpecker beautifully.
