Photo taken at Laguna Seca Ranch in South Texas January 29, 2019.

Nikon D850, 300mm lens, 1.4 TC, 1/1600 sec at f/8.0, ISO 360.

Remarkable light and IQ Gene. Is that the 300 PF? (I'm being lazy and not checking your files as it's quicker to ask direct...lol). Tack sharp...

David, I put the exact lens in the post about 50% of the time.  It's a Nikon 300mm f/2.8 lens and Nikon's newest 1.4 Teleconverter.  Paired with the 850, the IQ is quite good.  Also, I've used the older and the new teleconverter, and there's essentially no IQ loss using the new teleconverter.  With a crop camera at 1.5, this set-up would be equivalent to a 630 mm lens at f/4.0.  Thanks for the question.

A beautiful image, Gene. An important aspect of this image is that it demonstrates how the woodpecker uses its stiff tail as a prop for balance. Well done!
