Photo taken at Laguna Seca Ranch in South Texas December 31, 2018.
Nikon D850, Nikon 300mm f/2.8 lens, 1/2000 sec at f/6.3, ISO 800. A Black Vulture preening a Crested Caracara is a behavior that is fairly common. Crested Caracaras are not friendly with Turkey Vultures, but are quite fond of Black Vultures. Almost to the point that they appear to be buddies. When a Black Vulture is on a perch, a Caracara will land next to the BV with their head out, sort of signaling that they want the BV to preen at the top of their head where they are unable to reach. It's quite interesting to see. Last edited by Gene Gwin on Tue Jan 15, 2019 12:35 pm, edited 1 time in total. |
