Taken in Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula.

I was attempting to get flight shots of Red-breasted Mergansers cutting a peninsula tip during May migration, but did not notice this nest just of to my right until almost sunset.

Great find, Paul. I like the color in the foreground and the goose down surrounding the nest.

Nice composition. She chose a good looking rock.

Thank You.  I was there for over a hour, panning with flying ducks, but she obviously did not leave the nest.  I would have noticed that.  At first I noticed the downy feathers blowing in a gentle wind, then the surprise of the mother goose and such a nest location - the rock was in the water 20 yards from shore and over 8 feet high.  She obviously viewed me as no threat.  That peninsula tip was visited by people daily who walked right in front of her.  Nobody else noticed the nest.

The down feathers are a real giveaway that its a nesting site, and the lichen covered rocks add a lovely colour to the scene. Well spotted and taken, Paul.
