A little Coot chick, just a couple of days or so old.  Such crazy colours - you would never think it would become all black like its parents, that's if it survives.  The mortality rate among Coot chicks is very high, they are a target for gulls, and even their own parents often attack them after a few days of being constantly asked for food!

Carol, just fantastic with beautiful colors and detail, a Coot chick has never looked better in all its comic glory!  Also love the silky textures on the water, the avocado color makes the red and gold head pop.  The little tilt of the head is quite endearing, delightful image!

Great looking image of this little newbie coot Carol. That bright red and orange doesn't last that long so well done getting this guy early in life.
Techs look great as does the water color. Well done

I like your approach to getting this shot and the water motion is superbly done with an added bonus for the water droplets on the side and back, yes all chicks are ugly when they are born, nicely posted image CAROL.

Superb shot Carol. Brilliant colours. Love the contrasts between the colours in the water and that head. The detail is superb too, such as those water drops on the back. Just shows how small it is and the risks / challenges getting to adulthood. Thanks for sharing

Wow, super cute image, Carol. It is sad that their own parents attack them.

Oh, my! What a face!! That is an amazing picture-both quality-wise, and because it is so special to see a new-born coot- I had no idea they looked like that. I should think that bright red would be a target for predators! I hope it survives.

Hey Carol
I’m sorry I hadn’t checked this one out until just now. It’s a very cool image of this little one! When clicked on, it really shines. The Elizabethan collar makes for great separation between the dark cloak and the brightly colored head. A very special capture!
