One of my favorite examples of side-lighting. Late afternoon sunlight in this case. I so enjoy playing with light and shadow!

Gorgeous image, Tony. Love the interplay is between highlight and shadow. Some do not prefer shadows in bird photography, but I feel they can add depth and dimension to an image, which is the case here. Well done.

The added depth and dimension you mention is exactly why I always look for opportunities to utilize side-lighting. I so admire your photographs on your website. Thanks for your generous and positive support of my photography.

Very nice side light shot. The egret just glow against the dark BG.

Tony, love the "glow" here, and the Egret couldn't have posed more elegantly, to give you full advantage to your favored technique!

So artistic- a beautiful pose and lovely mood -love this kind of work! It feels like a painting. Agree with Ron's comments.

Beautiful play of light on the body and lovely pose, although my eye wants to see a bit more substance to the right leg which is rather 'whispy' and keeps drawing my gaze away from the main star of the show!  Artistic photography is so subjective. :)
