Shot this morning, just watching these Coots and all of the sudden the whole flock about 20 coots took of like a rocket without warning. I had split second to lock on. I am impressed with AF on this 13 years old D2Hs CAM 2000 AF module, not near as fast as D500, but it get the job done nicely.

D2Hs, 200-500mm f/5.6
1/1250, ISO-560, f/5.6, handheld, VR-ON @500mm.

Love the takeoff action, Ludo. Beautiful color and reflections in the water, and super trailing water droplets.

Ludo, what a fun action shot!  Coot looks like it's really hauling, what with that 'leaning into it' body language and water splashes.  The wavy striations on the water add to the frenetic energy.  Really cool "running on water" image.

Thank you all for the kind words. The reflection in the water is from Cattails (tall grass). One of my favorite backgrounds, Sun was low and directly behind me.
