This is a male California Anatum Peregrine. He is the king of the territory he patrols around the cliff side eyrie and it is always great fun to watch him come smoking into the cove he nests in.

David, gorgeous shot of this handsome male! Very cool oncoming patrol pose with lovely details and complementary BG. Nice plus with that little turn of the head. Yes, isn't it insane and quite a thrill to see the sheer speed they get diving down into the cove? Beautiful presentation, very well done.

Yes it's one of my favorite things to see when I am on the cliff. I am always at an awe over his speed and power as he comes in to the cove.
I have been a falconer all my adult life and I can definitely say that he is the epitome of falcons.

Yes I was hand holding a 600 with a 1.4.
That is pretty much all I do and 99.9% of my shots are hand held.

I also just switched to Nikon after many years with Canon so this was was with my new rig.
