I saw one of these a few weeks ago and thought that would be the end. Didn't get any good pictures- these birds are migrants in my area (Vermont). But this beauty showed up today-I made some quick grab shots through an open window as I had to leave shortly. Looking at this I am impressed how this bird blends with the fall ground cover. It'a almost "find the bird". I would have used higher ISO/faster shutter if I'd had time to think.... :)

It blends in even though big in the frame. I really like these types of images, especially with the stare.

What a beauty. Blend really nicely with the fallen leaves on the ground.

A good-looking little Fox Sparrow in very nice habitat, Cindy. Lovely soft light and handsome markings.

Excellent grab shot, Cynthia. The chosen setting worked well here. We still have our single Fox Sarrrow and I feed him/her very well.

Cindy, very sweet attentive pose and nice markings.  Indeed, the bird blends well in the leaf litter, but is nicely isolated here - has a lovely "Fall" theme going on - delightful image!

I agree!  You would think they would feel very vulnerable on the ground, but with the excellent camouflage in the autumn leaves they must be hard to spot from above.
