Great flight shot.
There are lots here in Va. where I shoot. I hear them and occasionally see them but never seem to get a shot out in the open. Nice to see it can be done!
(What would you think about cropping the blue out on the right?)

Pileated Woodpeckers are not easy to photograph in flight, but you have done an excellent job with this male, Paul. The flight position, with wings on the down stroke, is ideal for revealing the feather detail and markings, and the exposure is near perfect with good detail in the blacks. Well done!

Stan, I wanted to show the diameter of the tree but cropping the blue strip on the right would work for me as well..

Paul, excellent wing down stroke and love the incoming concentration depicted, for the intended landing - good concentration on your part too, getting this tough to get action shot!

Nice timing in this shot. Like Ron said, these are very hard to get shots. Well done.

Excellent capture of a hard-to- catch bird- they are elusive around here.
