Yesterday morning is one of those days I will never forget. Early morning I decided to checkout my friend Barred Owl. I didn't expected to be there very long so I just grabbed D2Hs with 200-500mm f/5.6. I left D4 at home, that was a big mistake.
When I got to the field owl was already hunting, I mean right in front of me 20-30 feet. I couldn't believe it. In first 30 minutes  when I got there it caught and ate 2 voles and just kept hunting,,,this owl has some appetite. Non stop action back to the tree,,,flight down to the grass , flying incoming over my head, left, right you name it.
Problem was it was way too dark to even try for decent flight shots since I can't shoot ISO-20,000 + with D2Hs,,D4 can handle it. I took some shots with ISO-3200 later on when light got little better.
In this frame , owl is just about hit the vole in the grass and it got it.
I have the whole sequence from taking off to landing.
Image quality is not good as I expected shooting ISO-3200 BIF with 1/400 with D2Hs, but it show the action. I had to leave to go home while owl was still hunting in better light, I was sad to leave.

Afternoon I tried my luck again , this time with D4. Bob K known here as "RLK" was already there. We shot together few shots. I was lucky to get some flight shots but at ISO-51,200 since light was gone. I will post next, one frame at ISO-51,200  Barred Owl in flight...nothing fancy just nice for reference.

Nice action shot, Ludo. I'm looking forward to see the high ISO shot net time.
