Misty morning, at dawn, came across this low perched young Cooper's Hawk.

A striking pose, Stan! The head turn and downward stare are unique and beautiful. Very nicely done!

Sharp and clean with a nice BG, along with the perfect comp for the pose. Makes you wonder what's drawing the hawks’ attention.

The bird does look fixated on something below, but in fact it was just finishing preening !

Really like this image for the even light and position of the bird, but wondering if you've cropped this in any way. Wouldn't it be better to have panned down about 15% to show more of the perch (and more of the direction the bird appears to be looking) and less of the empty area along the top? Just IMO of course.

I shoot at this wetlands park, near my home, quite regularly. I am usually there before sunrise, and while walking in I looked to my left and this hawk was perched within arms length. It briefly looked at me and kept preening. I was way too close to take a shot and moved down the boardwalk to get a better BG. My position was limited by the boardwalk and water on both sides. The bottom of the snag was obstructed by the solid railing of the boardwalk. There is almost no crop of the RAW file and I left the space at the top because the BG worked out pretty well.
I am still amazed that the hawk was so calm and hung around for a few minutes. I believe I have seen this bird many times but never this close or low down. A lucky encounter for sure.
