An interesting close-up. The head is sharp, but the wing blur on the left does not appear natural. A higher aperture and faster shutter speed should help.

I don't mind the wing blur, it is something different and makes you take a second look. I find the cut off tail more distracting. All in all though an interesting shot.

Miker, Like the different image with the head in perfect focus with the dramatic wing blur. I'm pretty sure you know that a faster shutter speed will prevent wing blur.

The camera defaults to 1/160th with flash. Apparently the speed of the flash couldn't even stop the wing blur.

Not sure about your Sony model - but bird would need to be in shade and almost all light for photo comes from flash to freeze wings. Nikon has settings with flash so that you can push shutter speed above sync speed ( in your case 1/160 sec) this helps some but flash length is extended or in bursts to cover entire frame since at no on time is shutter completely open.
