Taken on the last night of my Papuan jaunt, on the tiny island of Biak, after three unsuccessful attempts.
The only owl on the island (hence my title to this post) it is a very localised endemic (to Biak and its sister islet Supiori), sadly this bird is also classified as vulnerable due to his extremely restricted range. Notice that it had just caught dinner, in the form of what looks to me like a gecko...

Very interesting image and story behind it.  The prey item is very camouflaged, but that adds to the image.

Nice nighttime photo of this owl. I love the eyes and feel that they make the image. The camouflaged prey in the beak is a bonus.

The eyes definitely make the image, Hugues!

Nice night shot. The lizard in it's beak blend perfectly with owl.
