Photo taken at Laguna Seca Ranch in South Texas April 29, 2018.

Nikon D850, 300mm f/2.8 lens, 1.4 TC, 1/800 sec at f/8.0, ISO 320, Flash.

Northern Cardinals in South Texas are a subspecies of their Cousins from the North.  South Texas Northern Cardinals have a taller crest and are a deeper red.

A handsome specimen, Gene. And great information about the taller crest, which, by the way, is beautiful. The detail, as always, is superior.

Beautiful rich red color. These birds must be fun to watch in flight, just a red flashes.
