I have followed a pair of White-throated Kingfishers through their breeding cycle. One thing I like to see is how they greet each other either over a long distance or up close with a quick, open-wing flash. The white patch on their wings can be seen over a distance.
The male and the female are very similar.
They both have mud on the bills through excavating a nest in a muddy bank

Graeme, Thanks for the explanation. Great comp, perch and background. On my monitor, the image looks a bit dark.

Beautiful symmetry and terrific poses, Graeme. And the narrative is very interesting. To be fully appreciated, this image needs to clicked on and viewed full size in shadowbox. Great work, Graeme.

A beautiful capture of the interaction between these two Graeme, and you can see that at this moment their attention is totally focussed on each other. I love the symmetry of their greeting poses! Thanks also for the very interesting explanation of their behaviour. Top quality image, as always!
