Sandy, this is an ultra-cute chick, and you caught it bobbing around in the perfect calling pose. The rings in the water are a plus and assist in telling the story. Very nice photograph.

Cute little chick. I like the dots on the head almost like a leopard :-)

This was one very brave little chick. Since he was the only one, I suspect other nestlings met their fate.
This little one, the size of a baseball,  was swimming alone long distances back and forth across a large pond, totally exposed.
Every once in awhile, he/she would call to mom to reassure himself/herself that mom was still around.
Mom would answer from the other side of the pond, and chicky would just keep swimming around.
Sandy
