What a super portrait. I would be interested in your camera settings? The depth of field is excellent, and the multiple fish in the bill are just wonderful and actually make the image. Very well done!

SLR vertical with the 500 f / 4 at full aperture to about 5 meters then making a crop in post production, the focus is where the beak begins and the depth of field covers half of the eyes and up to the penultimate little fish

excusing the pun but an eye catching portrait.

Understand what you are saying about the point of focus but there are other camera settings that are useful.. aka iso setting and shutter and aperture. Main benefit being for users that are on a different learning curve, hence why they are so useful.

Like to see some more blacks put in as a Puffin's head is quite dark and this appears lightened up quite strongly.

Very interesting and creative portrait. Horned or Atlantic Puffin?

Atlantic

Shooting data:  500mm f/5 - Iso 100 - 1/500 , Crop 48 % - point of focus on the beginning of the beak
