She was sleeping earlier in the shadow in the tree. I have seen it many times where these  owls seek direct sunlight almost like basking.
My guess is that there is tons of mosquitoes in the woods were they live and getting in open area in direct sunlight would give them some relief from the blood sucking mosquitoes.

Great shot Ludo. Looks like it is sitting on the rail of the pump building - right? I assume this is the female since the male seldom lends himself to photography.
