Took this last fall.  don't like showing Captives but there is a place in stock files.  Full Frame + a bit.  (left as you view had to add canvas as third wing feather touching edge.   )  Otherwise as is.  D500 and 70-200 2.8 II.  1/2000 F4 ISO 500.  Being a space sort of person, I still acknowledge some shots on the internet need impact so I hedge my bets on a shoot.

Please feel free to click on the image to view uncompressed.  Thanks

Great incoming shot with beautiful wing spread and awesome feather detail, Dave. The eyes are penetrating – and the icing on the cake. Great job!

I love this, Dave. Not bothered by the cut off wing- it has such a dramatic close-up effect. The eyes are wonderful. The other versions are nice, but somehow they don't have the same impact. I love seeing all the feather details and this amazing feet. Must view enlarged!

Thanks all for your thoughts.  Agree Cindy re the other options... (the D500 does 10 fps so it'll not be a surprise if I said I do have the other options... The AF tracking is sublime.  I've a few more tight crops... just showing this as my preferred choice)...

That's a nice one too Dave, but more shadowed. Your original post is just so dramatic! ( Love my D500 too....wish I had that nice lens, but it's too heavy for me. :(. Happy with 300 +1.4 most of the time.... :) )

Captive or not, I like it a lot. Amazing capture David! What a beautiful owl. Reminding me Great-horned Owl we got here except the eyes seems more orange where Grey-Horned Owl eyes are yellow. Otherwise very similar.

Beautiful angled wingspread and gorgeous eyes in this intimate swoop, Dave! Superb detail in lovely soft light.
