An interesting scenario; the red morph was on the top of the snag and the gray one at the lower hole.
My wife took a shot with her 100-400 that I will include as a comment.
Thanks for looking.

My wife took this picture as a record shot. Never before and after we had seen both in the same tree(snag).
There are many old trees many suitable holes in the area.

Amazing that you found two in the same snag. I love the detail, pose, and the element of camouglage in this shot. You handled the difficult lighting extremely well. Terrific photograph, Karl. And thanks to your wife for the nice view of both owls.

Wow, you want to talk about camouflage. This owl blend so nicely in the tree. Mother nature at it's best. Nice shot Karl!

Super sharp picture and nice subjects. You and your wife have a lot of fan together. Indeed it is pretty rare to see these red and grey morph on the same tree.

Thanks for the great shots and story- amazing to see. Great camouflage and habitat-interesting that the red morph chooses a redder background....deliberate, I wonder?

This is a cracker. Outstandingly speaking eyes in its habitat. Too good a shot.
