The puffed out feathers and unusual pose create a humorous looking Cowbird to me! Love it, Rob.

Exquisite detail in this fine portrait, Rob!   Personally, I would prefer a little more variation in the background, but that's just me (ornery old moo) - and I can see a very subtle change of shade.  I know there are many who like a clear, uniform backdrop.  8)

Very nice shot of this parasitic bird. Great details. These birds don't build their nests and rather lay their eggs as many as 3 dozens during the summer to other's birds nests at the expense of the host raising their offspring causing some of the host chicks to die. This bird is partially responsible why some species of Warblers are disappearing. I personally dislike this bird for it's behavior. In the farm fields nearby where I live these birds are considered pest....they are everywhere.

Just like the European Cuckoo in their parasitic habits, nature works in mysterious ways.

Cheers and thanks for your comments.

Cheers Carol, that 500 mm lens has a lot to do with getting the BG out of focus with that clean look, especially if you get close to the subject and the BG is in the distance. I thought my 300 2.8 gave me good BG but the 500 blows the 300 away as far as the BG goes. You are certainly not an ornery old moo, :) you just keep us all on our toes and make in my case I always go back for a second look to see if there would be any opps for improvement.

Still in mourning after last weekend :(

Regards,

Rob
