Shot yesterday evening at one of my favorite places to shoot.
Tree Swallows were dancing in the air above the water catching little flies. I was waiting for the right moment when they fly really close to  me and try to get a good lock and track on them, very hard since they fly so fast and erratic. I had some keepers, but nothing fancy.
I decided to turn off VR (IS in Canon world) in the lens and crank up SS to 1/3200 and it made the difference, not a huge but just enough to start getting higher percentage of keepers. I am assuming when VR is turned of it is easier (less work) for the lens and camera to focus.
This is full frame shot with no crop @500mm.
D4, 200-500mm f/5.6
1/3200, ISO-1400, f/8, @500mm, handheld, VR-off.

Beautiful capture and sweet, artistic background, Ludo! Brilliant job catching this speeding bullet, and whatever you did, certainly worked brilliantly.

Super nice BG and very dramatic perfect match with the flight of the tree swallow.
