Shot yesterday evening at one of my favorite places to shoot.
Tree Swallows were dancing in the air above the water catching little flies. I was waiting for the right moment when they fly really close to me and try to get a good lock and track on them, very hard since they fly so fast and erratic. I had some keepers, but nothing fancy. I decided to turn off VR (IS in Canon world) in the lens and crank up SS to 1/3200 and it made the difference, not a huge but just enough to start getting higher percentage of keepers. I am assuming when VR is turned of it is easier (less work) for the lens and camera to focus. This is full frame shot with no crop @500mm. D4, 200-500mm f/5.6 1/3200, ISO-1400, f/8, @500mm, handheld, VR-off. Please click on the image for uncompressed view, thank you. Ludo |
