Hand held with Nikon D800; Nikon 200-500mm @ 500m; Iso 1500; 
f/8, 1/500.

Wow Atom. That is certainly a new one on me. What a cool spoonbill and I thought at first it was an albino. Thanks for posting this one - I'm happy to learn something new each and every day.

Atom, The area around the bird is pretty busy, but I think it fits this image perfectly to show its natural habitat. Like the details.

Tom, very good pose with the head angled downward and one foot raised. Gene makes a good point about the background.

According to my book, "Birds of Western Australia"  we have two species of spoonbills here in Australia. The one pictured is the Yellow-billed Spoonbill. The other one, The Royal Spoonbill, is on my bucket list. One will cross my path sooner or later. My mate and I had a great time today. He took a whole series of photos of both adult and juvenile spoonbills. We call the young 'teaspoons' because of their short bill.

Gene the background area looks busy because it is busy. It is a bloody swampy jungle.
